Republic of Korea: Issued PIPC ruling in investigation into Millie's Study Co., Ltd. for breach of the Personal Information Act

On 12 April 2023, the Korean Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) issued its ruling in the investigation into Millie's Study Co., Ltd and imposed a fine of KRW 684 million and penalties of KRW 20 million for violations of the Personal Information Protection Act. In particular, the PIPC found that Millie's Study Co., Ltd. violated the data security requirements by failing to implement online safety measures such as firewalls or the encryption of unique identification information, which resulted in the leak of the personal information of 13'393 people.
