Vetoed SB 1236 amending taxation rules for blockchain nodes

On 12 April 2023, Governor Hobbs issued a veto for Bill 1236. The Bill aimed to prevent cities, towns, and counties from prohibiting or restricting individuals from running blockchain nodes in residences. Additionally, the local governments would not be allowed to impose taxes or fees on the use of blockchain technology by any person or entity. The Bill specified that the regulation of running a node on blockchain technology in residences and the imposition of taxes or fees for using the technology is considered a matter of statewide concern, so it cannot be further regulated by cities, towns, or counties. The Bill defined "blockchain technology" and "running a node on blockchain technology" as prescribed in section 44-7061 of the Arizona Revised Statutes.
